The 2009-2010 season saw him receive less playing time as a new coach joined PSV, leading to a transfer to other Dutch giants AZ. He should be a great defender for the future, on both the club level and for the Netherlands national team, whom he represented twice so far, and where he is expected to shore up the defense for years to come.
