- Description: One of the best young goalkeeping talents in the Spain, David de Gea broke out during the latter part of the 2009-2010 season for Atlético Madrid. With fellow young goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo making mistakes, and backup goalkeeper Roberto injured, de Gea was inserted into the starting lineup, quickly cementing his status as a first-choice goalkeeper with his great aerial ability. He played 19 games for Atlético, earning great reviews and even starting in the Europa League final which Atlético won. These performances got him an invitation to the preliminary Spanish squad for the 2010 World Cup, and even though he was cut due to the abundance of available goalkeepers (Casillas, Reina, Valdés), he is definitely considered to be Spain’s goalkeeper of the future.
