  • Description: A former Barcelona youth player, Mérida followed in the footsteps of fellow Spaniard Cesc Fàbregas by joining Arsenal in 2005. Impressing greatly with his passing ability and technique, he became a star of the Arsenal youth teams and played for the first team a few times, scoring 2 goals in 6 appearances. However a lack of first team  playing time saw him reject a contract from Arsenal and join Atlético Madrid during the summer of 2010, where he is expected to provide quality chances for Diego Forlán and Sergio Agüero. Mérida has also played for various youth national teams for Spain and great performances for Atlético could surely see him receive a senior squad call-up.
