- Spain: Great performance from Spain today, they had a few good chances and defended well. Carles Puyol particularly impressed, he had 2 goalscoring chances, one of which he converted to put Spain in the final, and defended admirably against the German counter-attack. David Villa was his usual menacing self, getting a few shots on goal and bothering the German defense. Going forward, Spain’s defense will have to play extremely well to stop the Netherlands offensive line, and someone other than Villa will have to step up offensively.
- Germany: The Germans definitely missed Thomas Müller today, as they looked a little slow going forward and didn’t convert on the one good chance they had, which came to his usual position. Their defense was good for the most part, but a marking mistake did lead to Puyol’s game winning header. Going forward, Germany should play better against Uruguay with Müller back, and as both teams will try to redeem their previous losses, it should make for a great attacking third place game.
