Here is a look at and projection of the 2009-2010 Premier League champions:
Players In: Yossi Benayoun (attacking midfielder, undisclosed fee, but rumored to be about £5-6 million), Ramires (central midfielder, £17 million)
Players Out: Juliano Belletti (right back, end of contract), Michael Ballack (central midfielder, end of contract), Joe Cole (left winger, end of contract), Miroslav Stoch (left winger, £4.95 million), Deco (attacking midfielder, released), Ricardo Carvalho (centre back, £6.7 million), Scott Sinclair (right winger, £500,000), Sam Hutchinson (centre back, retired), Franco Di Santo (striker, undisclosed fee, but rumored to be about £2 million), reserve and academy team players, and those out on loan
Strengths: Defensive midfield, with John Obi Mikel impressing last year, and Michael Essien coming back healthy, Chelsea should be one of the toughest teams in that area. Their strikers are also great, with Drogba and Anelka returning, joined by talented youngsters Daniel Sturridge and Gaël Kakuta.
Weaknesses: Chelsea could use another true centre back, especially now that Ricardo Carvalho has left the club. Currently they only have Alex and Terry as true centre backs, though others such as Ivanović and Ferreira can also cover there, and youngster Jeffrey Bruma could be given a chance to prove himself. Chelsea also look to field more young players this year, so their inexperience could be a factor as well.
Projected Place: 1st
Overall: They have kept most of the great championship team from last year, and look to give their talented young players more playing time, so Chelsea should once again be one of the favorites for the title.
