Here is a look at and projection of the Liverpool side for the 2010-2011 season:
Players In: Jonjo Shelvey (attacking midfielder, £1.8 million), Milan Jovanović (striker, free transfer), Joe Cole (left winger, free transfer), Danny Wilson (centre back, £2 million), Fábio Aurélio (left back, free transfer), Christian Poulsen (defensive midfielder, £4.5 million), Brad Jones (goalkeeper, £2.3 million), Raúl Meireles (central midfielder, £11.5 million), Paul Konchesky (left back, £3 million)
Players Out: Albert Riera (left winger, £5 million), Yossi Benayoun (attacking midfielder, undisclosed fee, but rumored to be about £5-6 million), Diego Cavalieri (goalkeeper, £1.2 million), Javier Mascherano (defensive midfielder, £17.25 million), reserve and academy team players, and those out on loan
Strengths: Goalkeeping, Pepe Reina is one of the best in the world. The centre backs are solid as well with Daniel Agger and Martin Škrtel being covered by strong signing from last season, Sotirios Kyrgiakos along with experienced veteran Jamie Carragher. Liverpool’s new signing Danny Wilson can also challenge for a spot.
Weaknesses: Attacking Midfielders, as Liverpool only really have Steven Gerrard and to some extent Joe Cole to cover there, and could use another natural player in that position. With Alberto Aquilani leaving on loan to Juventus, more creativity in central midfield could also be desired. Liverpool do have youngsters players to fill in, however their inexperience could be a factor.
Projected Place: 6th
Overall: Liverpool have a good team, but a lack of depth and mostly chronic injuries push them down a bit in the rankings, however if the team manages to stay healthy, they can surely compete with anyone.
