Here is a look at and projection of the Hamburg side for the 2010-2011 season:
Players In: Lennard Sowah (left back, free transfer), Heiko Westermann (centre back, €7.5 million), Dennis Diekmeier (right back, €2.5 million), Jaroslav Drobný (goalkeeper, free transfer), Gojko Kačar (defensive midfielder, €5.5 million)
Players Out: Jérôme Boateng (centre back, €12.5 million), David Rozehnal (centre back, undisclosed fee), and those out on loan
Strengths: Strikers, with Ruud van Nistelrooy, Mladen Petrić, Paolo Guerrero, Maxim Choupo-Moting and talented youngster Son Heung-Min, Hamburg have a great offensive line. Their full backs are also good, with Marcell Jansen, Dennis Aogo, Guy Demel, Dennis Diekmeier and talented youngster Lennard Sowah making up the core.
Weaknesses: Centre Backs, Hamburg do have good centre backs in Heiko Westermann and Joris Mathijsen, but could use another player to cover. The team does have others players and youngsters to fill in, however they could still use another natural player in that position.
Projected Place: 7th
Overall: Hamburg have a good team, and with more player improvement or depth, could really compete with anyone in the Bundesliga.
